Sample Law School Personal Statements: Getting into W&M Law, Cornell Law, and Columbia Law
W & M (William & Mary) Law School in Virginia, Cornell Law School and Columbia Law School in New York are institutions that have been well known for providing education to the forefront in case law for practitioners of the future law . Many lawmakers and legal practitioners claimed to have their education from these schools, especially the Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who studied at both Cornell and Columbia. If you wish to apply for these schools, here is an introduction to the application process, eligibility, and requirements that you must pass.
Eligibility
W & M law has three programs available. For those who want to enroll in the JD program, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. For those who want to engage in joint curriculum, a minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree is also required. Those who want to enter the master’s program or those who want to deepen their knowledge of American jurisprudence may do so even if they have obtained their legal education outside the United States as the TOEFL requirements are met.
Cornell Law requires that candidates have obtained at least a bachelor’s degree from a four-year term. Although graduate school grades and permanent will not appear in the ranking, they can be considered by the Committee. International students must submit their transcripts by the LSAC JD Credential Assembly Service (CAS).
Columbia Law is a little more care because it requires that candidates have a law degree. A bachelor’s degree in any field, while being followed by a Master of Laws, will still not be enough for eligibility. Those who have obtained their law degree by correspondence or in law schools abroad are also not accepted at Columbia Law.
application process
The application process for W & M Act is as follows:
1) Complete an application form via the LSDAS electronic application or the website of the school.
2) Submit an application fee.
3) Send your transcripts and letters of recommendations.
4) Send your essays and a TOEFL score if applicable.
For Cornell Law:
1) Send a completed application form via the website or through LSAC.
2) Pass two letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and a test of diversity as an option.
3) Submit an application fee.
To enter Columbia Law:
1) Adopt a completed application by applying online GLS.
2) Pay the application fee.
3) Submit your TOEFL, if applicable.
4) Pass a personal trials, a curriculum vitae, transcripts and diplomas, and letters of recommendation.
Writing the personal statement
All three schools require the applicant to submit a personal statement. Cornell states in writing the personal statement on a topic about yourself, which can be further discussed at the interview. You can write about personal or academic interests and accomplishments, your goals and dreams or any other project that you take pride in. A personal statement length is preferably a maximum of two pages, double spaced, and font and size that is easy on the eyes.
